Speaking and media

Talks, workshops and training for school business, governance and technology audiences. Everything an organiser needs to publish is on this page — profile, photograph and topics.

Topics

Usually delivered as a conference session or a half-day workshop, and adapted to the audience — governors, business managers and network managers want very different things from the same subject.

Cyber security

What actually happens to schools, what the standards expect, and which of it a school can realistically do itself.

IT strategy

Building a plan that survives contact with a budget, and knowing which decisions are genuinely technical and which are not.

Website compliance

What schools are statutorily required to publish, where inspections find gaps, and how to keep it current without a rebuild.

Data protection

GDPR as it is actually experienced in a school office, rather than as a training module.

Asset management

Knowing what you own, what it cost, when it dies and what replacing it will do to next year's budget.

Recruitment and communication

Attracting staff and talking to parents when you are competing with organisations that have a marketing department.

For organisers

Take what you need — no need to ask first, and no approval process for a programme entry.

A note on fees

Sessions for school business manager and governor communities are usually unpaid — it is the community this work came out of, and turning up is part of belonging to it. Commercial conferences and supplier events are chargeable, as is bespoke training.

Easiest thing is to say which you are and we will sort it out in one email.

Neil — confirm this reflects how you actually want to handle it. It is a good position but it is my inference, not something you told me.
